Memorable Senior Night in the DEN

Throughout the course of the season, memorable relationships are formed as the team bonded on and off the court.  The love and support for one another was evident on ‘SENIOR NIGHT’.  On Thursday, the Lady Panthers profiled their four senior players with parent and family escorts.  In addition, the Junior Varsity team, lead by Coach Nicole Bence, were out in full force to visualize and assist the meaningful salutes.
A special thanks is also extended to the Nease cheerleaders and dance team for coming out and performing on behalf of the Ladies.
The four seniors honored were:  Desiree Robinson (center), Bryonna Dexter (guard), Grace Beyer (injured guard), and Stephanie Manherz (guard).  With the exception of Grace (Lost season due to ACL injury), the three seniors would lead the charge from start to finish.

The team finished off their collaboration on ‘The WE GEAR’ (special book selected by head Coach Sherri Anthony) as the precursor
for the regular season finale.  Many valuable lessons were highlighted throughout the book to enhance chemistry and consideration for each player’s contribution to the team. Creating an environment where 'everybody is somebody', requires acute consideration on behalf of all concerned. The ambiance created a melody that would make Beethoven smile.  Such was the case on 'Senior Night’, as all 11 players got in on the act and were cheered on by teammates.

On to the highlights for the game itself.  After two minutes of play in the opening quarter, the score was even at 4-4.  The one and only time the contest would be close.  Nease went on a 16-2 run to conclude the period and held a comfortable lead 20-6.  Stephanie Manherz, spearheaded another run (11-0) to start the second quarter and with 5:26 remaining, the Lady Pantherss increased the lead against the Lady Bulldogs from Deland  31-6.  With the 25-6 period, Nease trotted into the 'Den Quarters' at intermission with the game pretty much out of hand (45-12).

Nease came out of halftime without the same eye caddie and the results showed in the first 2:30 of the third period.  Deland put together their best offensive quarter (11 pts.), but while substituting freely, the Lady Panthers still controlled things with the running clock
operating. Sydney Gomes hit consecutive treys in the final period to put the final nails in the coffin.  Nease punctuated Senior Night and the regular season finale with the easy victory 69-28.

The senior trio all scored in double figures, led by Stephanie Manherz’s 15 points (all in the first half).  Bryonna Dexter and Desiree Robinson finished with 12 points each.  Sydney Gomes yielded to her senior comrades and finished with a double-double for the heck of it (11 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals).  Desi would get her double-double on the night by hauling in 16 boards.  Steph added 7 rebounds, 5 dimes and 5 steals to cap off her night.

Nease finished regular season play with an impressive 18-5 record and will enter District play next week as the #2 seed.  With a bye in the first round, the Lady Panthers will challenge the winner of the Monday matchup between Bartram / Sandalwood.  The semifinal game will be played at Bartram  on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.  Win and advance to the District Finals on Thursday night.  Sounds like music to my ears and a chance for redemption.  Nease missed out on the Conference Championship last Saturday, but now seek a bigger prize and badge of honor ‘DISTRICT CHAMPION’.  Get the picture!  Win and advance!
